I recently traveled to Stamford Bridge on a trusty Boris Bike to get my Chelsea Tickets for the Genk vs Chelsea Champions League game.

On arrival near Stamford Bridge there was not a single empty docking station for a radius of 3 miles – this meant a major delay and then hike back to Stamford Bridge to collect my Chelsea Tickets for the game on Tuesday.

Maybe when I need Premier League football tickets for Chelsea Tickets, Man Utd Tickets, Liverpool Tickets & Arsenal tickets, Euro 2012 tickets I should use the Chelsea FC website rather than spend time traipsing down to Stamford Bridge

Sometimes this is one of the major drawbacks of the Barclays Bike System when the bikes are not being circulated sufficiently and vacant spots aren’t left for incoming Boris Bikes and of course the current scheme has not extended as far West as places like Stamford Bridge

However, a TfL spokesman said: “Our current priorities are to extend the scheme to the east of London in time for the Olympics.”

Well what about the 30,000 football fans that go to Chelsea on a regular basis?

For only a pound you can easily see all the major London sites – just keep your journey to under 30 minutes and you will only be charged the £1 access fee.

Although London is a large city it is quite compact in that most places are less than a 30 minute cycle ride away.

Barclays Cycle Hire and Barclays Cycle Superhighways provide the public with a low-cost, sustainable and environmentally friendly way of getting around London.

Barclays Cycle Hire

• 6,000 cycles and 400 docking stations in central London, with east London expansion in Spring 2012
• The public are able to hire bikes for short journeys, with each half hour journey being free once they have paid their access fee

Barclays Cycle Superhighways

• Clearly marked cycle routes designed to make it quicker, easier and safer for people to cycle between outer and inner London
• Four routes have been launched to date, with a further 8 routes proposed over the next 4 years

For many Londoners the Boris Bike is part of their daily lives. 29,200 cycle journeys were made using Barclays Cycle Hire on its busiest day so far. More than 128,000 people are now Barclays Cycle Hire members. Transport for London expect the scheme will break even in three or four years.

There will be a westward expansion of the scheme through the boroughs of Wandsworth, Hammersmith & Fulham, Lambeth and Kensington & Chelsea. Also Westfield shopping centre In Shepherd’s Bush is to provide funding that will allow an early taster of the western expansion by extending Barclays Cycle Hire to the shopping centre by spring 2012. Approximately twelve new docking stations will connect the existing cycle hire zone to Westfield White City and six docking stations will potentially be on the grounds of Westfield London itself. This is hugely welcome not just for those who will use the bikes but for others who will benefit from the ease in traffic congestion.

Last year the Mayor announced that by spring 2012 the Barclays Cycle Hire area will extend beyond central London to include all of the Borough of Tower Hamlets as well as North Shoreditch in the Borough of Hackney. People living in Bethnal Green, Bow, Canary Wharf, Mile End and Poplar will also see docking stations built in their communities.

2. Follow the touch screen instructions
3. Insert your debit or credit card
4. You will be charged a £1 access fee
5. Once you have entered your pin choose to print your access key
6. You will be asked if you wish to hire a cycle
7. Follow the touch screen instructions
8. Your five digit access key will print out
9. Enter this five digit key into a filled bike docking station
10. A green light appears and your need to give the bike a hard pull to release from the docking station.
11. You’re off! Adjust the saddle, check for traffic and
    GO!
